Romeo
It was the Spring of 2011. One peaceful Saturday morning I went out to feed the horses and found an extra huge friendly red horse in the pasture. And upon inspection it was obvious he was a stallion. He had blazed through our back fence to visit the ladies.....ughhhh
We called neighbors. We had never seen him before. No one seemed to be missing him. Next was animal control. He couldn’t stay. We had no where to safely keep him while we searched for his owner. It was quite a fiasco but he was so hungry he loaded into our trailer and was booked in to the county jail for estray animals.
Days passed. We found out he was owned by a neighbor two properties over. The old man had passed away and the family had no interest in the horses he had left behind. I was told by animal control that if no one claimed the poor horse he would ultimately be taken to the local auction. So I called the auction to find out how the process worked. I felt terrible for this sweet horse who had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. The man on the other line said ‘oh honey them horses they all go to the packer’
Well, after speaking with the authorities and again with the former ‘owners’ Romeo was signed over. He was so happy to see me when I arrived to bail him out of jail. I will never forget....
.....and we went straight to the vet for gelding surgery.
Romeo is one of the sweetest horses around. He’s super smart, super handsome, and makes one heck of a herd boss. He still roams the pasture with the ladies he wanted to meet that day! I am convinced he knew exactly what he was doing.
We have promised him a forever home, your donation to this wonderful horse will help keep him here and safe for the reminder of his life.
