Exigent "Ex"
Ex has a gentle sole, with lots of energy. His racing days are over at only the age of 4. Prior to coming he was neglected and dumped at a kill pen. He arrived on November 2019 from the slaughter pipeline. A very amazing and caring individual wanted to save him from a horrible fate - and we agreed to provide a spot for him to quarantine at the final hour....
He arrived emaciated exhausted and could barely walk. He had horrible infections in both of his front hooves and he laid down almost immediately after arrival. He slept for hours, which felt like an eternity, and we prayed he would be able to get up. He had scabs, scrapes and cuts on every leg, oozing and untreated.
Once a beautiful healthy - and successful race horse who had even raced earlier this year - now appeared to be fighting for his life.
And to top it all off he was a stallion. (now gelded)
Well since that day his life has become much brighter. One day at a time, with TLC, and the help of our volunteers.
Racing has left him with painful knee chips, laminitis and general body soreness. He will live in "cloud boots" to protect his feet, and will have yearly knee injections. Thanks to Summit joint performance he also will be on their joint supplement.
As you can see on top of feed and daily nutritional needs, Ex has other costly needs. his cloud boots only last about a year, and a vet visit every year for injections. Every other day foot soakings completed by the wonderful owner of STES and volunteers. Along with daily check and needs.
At STES we are closely monitoring his progress and he is doing fantastic. Thanks to all the wonder help and support from our volunteers the help and keep Ex on the path of recovery, safety and love.
